Business Case

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

An Automobile maintenance and repair division were facing a unique problem where the hangar’s operating personnel often had to ground helicopters post service on account of missing/unaccounted tools that were issued at the ‘Tool Control Centre’. Leaving missing parts or small tools inside the assembly area of the engine bay or other places is a serious situation. Multiple aircraft and various service personnel were involved and there was a workflow to be embedded into the system as well.

CHALLENGE ASSESSMENT

The ‘Tool Control Centre’ had approximately 700 tools, some too small to fit any identification on. These were generally parts of a screw driver set or a soccer wrench. Further the issue was executed through a manual register based system and keeping control of the issued tools was based on operator diligence.

The area of the aircraft also had ‘priority’ clearance roster that dictated the rules of the workflow through authorising executives

IMPACT STATEMENT

Ceryletech - On Target Solutions developed a unique solution with RF tag identification that delivered one of the first ‘Traceability’ solutions built for the defence services in such an area of application. Deployment of the tool control system was unique and tested effectively.

Solution

The solution developed was built around RFT tag issue control through the Tool Issue Centre. Traceability was achieved and the system generated forms for sanctioning by superior offices to permit the maintenance to commence as well as adding dashboards ( real-time ) to the shop floor enhancing operational efficiency.
